An assessment usually runs 60 to 90 minutes. Longer if there is a lot to talk through. Bring the person who lives here, and any adult child who wants to be in the loop. We are happy to loop in a sibling on speakerphone.
Rugs, thresholds, cords, uneven flooring, transitions between rooms, and the small edges people stop noticing.
Tubs, showers, toilets, floors, and where a grab bar actually needs to go (not where the towel bar happens to be).
Night paths from bed to bathroom, hallway light levels, motion-triggered fixtures at entries, and mirror lighting.
Interior and exterior steps, handrail integrity, tread condition, front-porch approaches, and back-door access.
What is anchored properly, what is decorative, and where new support would make the biggest difference.
Where a threshold change or a small ramp would remove a daily trip risk or a wheelchair barrier.
How a walker, cane, wheelchair, or recovering hip moves through the home right now, and where it gets stuck.
Presence, placement, age, and battery status. We do not certify code compliance, but we flag what is missing.
Small maintenance items that become safety issues if left too long: loose railings, dead bulbs, sticking doors.

Who conducts the visit
April Gloy, our founder, is a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist and a career social worker who has spent more than fifteen years inside skilled nursing environments and family homes. It is her walking through your parent's house, not a technician.
