Most of the adult children we work with live in Atlanta, Nashville, Birmingham, Ohio, or somewhere much farther. Their parent lives in Freeport, Santa Rosa Beach, DeFuniak Springs, Miramar Beach, or along 30A. The parent is fine, mostly, and would rather not be worried about. The child would rather not lie awake at 2 a.m. after a phone call that mentioned a slip in the shower two days ago.
We become the middle piece. A local, CAPS-certified person the parent trusts and the child can count on for the truth about what is actually happening inside the home.
