Help for an aging parent in Florida when you live out of state.
If you live hours away from a parent on Northwest Florida's Emerald Coast, you already know the feeling. You want to know the smoke alarms work, the porch light comes on, and the bathroom is safe. You also do not want to nag, hover, or turn every phone call into a checklist. We are the local presence that fixes both.
If this is about a hospital stay, a discharge decision, or coordinating providers rather than the house, start with Family Advocacy & Care Navigation.
Most of the adult children we work with live in Atlanta, Nashville, Birmingham, Ohio, or somewhere much farther. Their parent lives in Freeport, Santa Rosa Beach, DeFuniak Springs, Miramar Beach, or along 30A. The parent is fine, mostly, and would rather not be worried about. The child would rather not lie awake at 2 a.m. after a phone call that mentioned a slip in the shower two days ago.
We become the middle piece. A local, CAPS-certified person the parent trusts and the child can count on for the truth about what is actually happening inside the home.
Four pieces, working together.
A trusted local presence
One person who knows the house, knows your parent, and answers the phone. That alone changes the weight of managing things from another state.
Scheduled check-in visits
On a rhythm you set. We walk the house, note what is changing, and handle small tasks in the moment when we can.
Photo reports after each visit
Alarms, the shower, the porch, the bulbs, the thresholds. You see what we saw. Siblings do too, without an extra phone call.
One call for anything home-related
A broken alarm, a dead handrail, a plumber who did not show. Instead of coordinating from your kitchen in Ohio, you send one text.
Three common shapes.
- 1. Start with a walkthrough.A complimentary Home Safety & Access Assessment so everyone has the same baseline. Great for planning your next visit.
- 2. Add ongoing membership.Regular check-ins on a rhythm you set through Coastal Basic, Premium, or Complete. Photo reports go to whoever you designate.
- 3. Escalate to Family Advocacy & Care Navigation when needed. When a hospital stay, a decline, or a discharge decision changes the situation, Family Advocacy & Care Navigation is our higher-touch Family Advocacy & Care Navigation engagement.

What adult children ask us before the first visit.
- How do I help an aging parent in Florida when I live in another state?
- Start by getting an accurate picture of the home. We walk the house in person for 60 to 90 minutes, send a written priority list, and include photos so every sibling sees the same thing. From there, families set a check-in rhythm and we handle coordination locally so decisions are not made from a phone call and a guess.
- Who checks on an elderly parent in Walton County when no family is nearby?
- We do. Coastal Access Living is based in Freeport and covers Walton County, including Santa Rosa Beach, Miramar Beach, DeFuniak Springs, and the 30A communities. Scheduled visits include a walkthrough, small safety tasks, alarm testing, and a photo report sent to the family.
- Can you coordinate contractors so I do not have to manage them from out of state?
- Yes. We scope the work, gather quotes from appropriately licensed and insured independent contractors, schedule the visits, and check the work before calling it done. The contractors remain responsible for their own work, warranties, and code compliance. We are not the installing contractor.
- Does the family need to be there for the assessment?
- No. Many of our assessments happen with the parent present and the adult children on speakerphone or reading the written report afterward. Photos are included with the parent's authorization so distance is not a barrier to seeing the home clearly.
- What does the complimentary Home Safety & Access Assessment cost?
- Nothing through the Founding 100 program. It is a $699 value at no cost, with no obligation to become a member or to hire us for any work that follows.

If your parent's home is in one of these areas, we can be there in person.
